14 passengers injured during rollover crash in Shoreham

SHOREHAM — Police were notified of a single-vehicle rollover crash on Vermont Route 22A in the town of Shoreham at around 5:30 a.m. this morning.

The driver was identified as Jolaina Pizarro, 24, of Syracuse, NY.

Pizarro was headed north at around 50-miles-per-hour when she lost control of her vehicle.

She was unable to regain control of the vehicle, exiting the roadway and rolling it several times.

Police say she sustained a minor shoulder injury.

Pizarro was transporting 14 passengers at the time of the crash.

Two passengers sustained injuries that required a transfer from Porter to UVM.

Twelve passengers sustained minor injuries and were released from Porter Hospital.

Speed and road conditions were contributing factors in the collision, police say.

The State Police were assisted on scene by the Shoreham and Orwell and Middlebury Fire Departments along with Middlebury, Benson and Vergennes Rescue.
