Addison and Ferrisburgh vote to keep schools open

ADDISON – Voters in Addison county rejected a proposal to close the Addison Central School and Ferrisburgh Central School on Tuesday.

After an Act 46 merger, more than 1,000 voters in Ferrisburgh and Addison disagreed with the proposal.

Citing a steady decline in enrollment, the Addison Northwest School District wanted to shut down the two elementary schools and integrate the students into the remaining schools.

The final decision as to where to send the students has fallen on the board, but rises in taxes are expected if the situation remains unchanged.
