Arrest made after crash, car fire in Starksboro

STARKSBORO — A 30-year-old Burlington man was arrested for operating under the influence following a crash in Starksboro yesterday.

Police were dispatched to a car fire on Vermont Route 17 at around 11:45 p.m.

The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when authorities arrived.

According to the police report, the driver, identified as Taylor Whipple, was headed east when he failed to negotiate a turn onto Gore Road, traveling off the road.

Police say shortly after the vehicle came to rest it became engulfed in flames.

While speaking with Whipple, police say they observed several signs of alcohol impairment.

Police arrested Whipple for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported him to the Vergennes Police Department for processing.

He was cited to appear in court on December 30 to answer the charge of operating under the influence of intoxicants or other substances.
