Driver charged after hit-and-run in New Haven

NEW HAVEN — A driver was charged with fleeing the scene of a two-vehicle crash in New Haven on Friday.

The crash took place on U.S. Route 7 near River Road at around 6:52 p.m.

Police say, Lana Newman, 29, of Middlebury, was travelling south when she was passed by a Silverado.

The Silverado hit the rear end of her vehicle, disabling the rear tire.

Police say after colliding with Newman, the Silverado continued south on U.S. Route 7.

With the assistance of the Middlebury Police Department, state police located the vehicle unoccupied.

Police say they identified the driver as Karen Norton, 49, of Vergennes.

Following an investigation, police say Norton had committed the offense of leaving the scene of an accident.

She was located and released on a citation to appear in court to answer the charge.
