WILLISTON — A 23-year-old man from Connecticut was arrested for DUI, grossly negligent operation, and leaving the scene of an accident after a two-vehicle crash in Williston yesterday.

Police say they received multiple 911 calls regarding a reckless driver on I-89 north between exit 11 and exit 12 at around 4:28 p.m.

Police responded to the area in an attempt to intercept the vehicle.

A two-vehicle crash was then reported to the police and the vehicle at fault had fled the scene.

After investigating police learned that the fleeing vehicle was the same one from the 911 calls.

Shortly afterward authorities were notified of a head-on crash on St. George Road.

Authorities say the vehicle at fault for the second crash was the same vehicle from the 911 calls and the first crash on I-89.

Police say the driver of the vehicle was not injured and identified as Nicholas Schneidt, of Branford, CT.

According to the police report, Schneidt had been driving the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Police say the sole occupant of the first vehicle Schneidt hit was not injured, and the two occupants of the second vehicle he hit sustained minor injuries.

Schneidt was arrested without incident and transported to the Williston State Police barracks for processing.

He was ordered held at Chittenden Regional Correctional Center until sober with a flash citation to appear in court to answer to the charges.
