MIDDLEBURY — A 24-year-old man was charged with negligent operation following an incident in Middlebury on Monday.
The incident took place at around 10:00 p.m.
Police in the area say they heard a loud exhaust and witnessed a 2003 Subaru Forester driven by Philip Barker, of Middlebury, accelerate into the entrance of the Hannaford Supermarket from US Route 7.
Upon driving down the entrance, police allege Barker passed another vehicle in an unsafe manner, drove through a stop sign, then proceeded to bring the vehicle to a halt causing the tires to squeal alongside, leaving skid marks in the parking lot.
“Due to the culmination of the factors that were witnessed by troopers, it was found that Barker operated the 2003 Subaru Forester in a negligent manner,” a statement issued by police reads.
