Police: Driver facing numerous charges following traffic stop in Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — A 26-year-old man from Massachusetts was arrested on multiple charges following an incident in Middlebury yesterday.

Police say they initiated a traffic stop on Main Street at around 11:45 p.m.

The driver was identified as Michael M. Mientka, 26, of Leeds, MA.

While speaking with Mientka, police say they detected signs of impairment.

Mientka was screened and arrested for suspicion of DUI drugs.

Police say while taking him into custody, Mientka resisted their attempts to place him under arrest.

According to the report, in a public place he used abusive and obscene language including racial and homophobic slurs, made unreasonable noise, and obstructed vehicular traffic.

He is also accused of causing damage to property.

He was transported to the New Haven barracks for processing and later held at the Southern State Correctional Facility with a citation to appear in court at a later date.

He is facing the charges of DUI #1, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and unlawful mischief.

Police were assisted on scene by members of the Middlebury Police Department and Vergennes Police Department.
