SALISBURY — A 65-year-old man was arrested for charges of domestic assault and cruelty to animals following an incident in Salisbury last week.

Police say an assault was reported at a home at around 10:00 p.m.

After investigating, police allege that Paul LaFountain, of Salisbury, had assaulted a household member.

Police also found that two dogs were severely neglected and deprived of adequate medical attention.

Due to severe neglect, police obtained a search warrant to seize both dogs.

The dogs were transported to the emergency veterinary hospital in the City of Burlington for immediate medical attention.

LaFountain was later released with active conditions of release and a citation to appear in court on Friday to answer to the charge of domestic assault.

He was also issued a citation to appear in court at a later date to answer to the charge of animal cruelty.
