Two killed during ATV crash in Starksboro

STARKSBORO — Two people were killed during a tragic incident in Starksboro on Friday.

The crash took place on Vermont Route 116 at around 10:18 p.m.

Police identified the driver of the vehicle as Tracy Bedell, 21, of Starksboro, and the passenger as Robert Lowell, 18, of Huntington.

Police say Bedell was headed west on Freedom Acres on an ATV and then entered the northbound lane of VT Route 116.

At the same time, Bayly LaRock, 20, of Hinesburg, was headed north on Vermont Route 116 and was unable to stop before striking the driver’s side of the ATV.

Both vehicles came to rest in a ditch located off the southbound lane.

Bedell and Lowell were transported to the hospital where they both succumbed to their injuries.

Police say they detected signs of impairment while speaking with LaRock.

He was screened and arrested for suspicion of DUI (Drugs).

He was transported to the Middlebury Police Department for processing and later released with a citation to appear in court at a later date.
