VERGENNES — Continuing a tradition started three years ago, the Vergennes Lions Club last week delivered student dictionaries to third and fourth graders at the Addison Central School.

The club also donated dictionaries to third-graders at the Champlain Valley Christian School and Vergennes Union Elementary School.

The Club sais that students immediately started reading bios of past U.S. presidents, looking at the American Sign Language pages, and challenging each other on the spelling of words.

The principals and teachers in all three schools thanked the Lions for continuing the donation to the students.

The Vergennes Lions are now selling “Cash for Christmas” 50/50 raffle tickets to help them fund their many community service projects.

Tickets are $10 for one, $20 for three and $40 for eight.

People interested in purchasing tickets can call 802-355-1969, or send a check with name, address and phone number, as well as specifying how many tickets for each, to:

Vergennes, VT 05491

Soon, the Lions will be starting their annual Toys for Kids Drive to collect toys for children of needy families.

People are encouraged to watch for the large barrels at various locations in the Vergennes area.

On November 13, the Vergennes Lions Club will be holding an Open House at the Vergennes Opera House from 6:30 – 8:30 for people to come in and see what the club has been working on over the past 65 years.

There will be refreshments served and door prizes awarded at the end of the evening.

The club is looking for more Lions to help meet the needs in the community, and organizers say they hope interested individuals come out and visit on November 13.
