Large cow on I-91 in Newbury slows traffic

NEWBURY — A cow caused a temporary traffic hazard on I-91 in Newbury this morning.

State police responded to a report of a large cow on I-91 south, near mile marker 107, at around 11:20 a.m.

The cow was located in the median when police arrived.

Police were able to identify the owners of the cow who responded to the area.

According to a statement issued by Trooper Joshua Lewis, the cow who was identified as “Willie,” and had escaped from his fenced-in enclosure.

Willie made his way onto both the north and southbound lanes of the interstate while troopers slowed and directed oncoming traffic.

Willie was eventually guided back through an opening in the interstate fence and returned home uninjured.
