Police: Drunk driver sideswipes another vehicle causing it to roll, flees the scene

BROOKFIELD — Police responded to a rollover crash on I-89 in Brookefield yesterday.

The two-vehicle crash took place south on Interstate 89 at around 1:45 p.m.

Police say Randy Gonzales, 33, of Hinesburg, had started swerving and struck the side of Thomas Matthews, 73, of South Burlington.

Matthews lost control of his vehicle and it went over a guard rail and into the median where it rolled.

Police say Gonzalez left the scene and was stopped in Bethel on I-89 by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department where he was arrested for suspicion of DUI.

He was issued citations for leaving the scene of an accident and DUI.
