Driver arrested for DUI #5 following crash in West Rutland

WEST RUTLAND — A 46-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges following a crash in West Rutland yesterday.

Authorities were notified of a crash on Rutland Road at around 8:45 a.m.

Following an investigation, police say that Charles Whittemore, of West Rutland, negligently operated a vehicle while traveling west, causing his vehicle to collide with a utility pole and three parked vehicles.

Police say Whittemore was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center, where he displayed signs of drug impairment and was screened for DUI.

An evidentiary blood sample was obtained from Whittemore at RRMC.

Police also found that Whittemore’s privilege to operate a motor vehicle on a public highway in Vermont was criminally suspended.

He was taken into custody for additional arrest warrants and transported to the Rutland barracks for processing.

After processing, he was released to Probation and Parole and lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility.

He was issued a citation to appear in court to answer to the charges of DUI #5, DLS #5, false information to police officers, negligent operation, arrest on multiple warrants.
