RUTLAND — The Vermont State Police and Rutland City Police Department are jointly investigating a homicide that took place early Sunday morning at the Quality Inn in Rutland.
Authorities were notified of a disturbance in a room in the hotel on South Main Street at around 3:40 a.m.
Following an autopsy, the victim has been identified as Jonathon Houghton, 35, of Holyoke, Massachusetts.
Houghton’s cause of death is listed as a gunshot wound to the torso, and the manner of death is homicide.
Police say they believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no current threat to the general public.
Nobody is currently in custody in connection with this case.
