RUTLAND — A 55-year-old convicted murderer was located and arrested at a home in Rutland early this morning.
On February 5, State Police and multiple local, state and federal law enforcement agencies started searching for convicted murderer William Wheelock.
Police say he removed an electronic monitoring device and absconded from furlough.
State Police, their Tactical Support Unit, and the FBI located Wheelock at a home on Park Avenue in Rutland at around 1:55 a.m.
Police took Wheelock into custody without incident and transported him to Marble Valley Correctional Center where he was lodged.
Wheelock was convicted in 1987 of second-degree murder and sentenced to serve 21-99 years in prison.
He was released on furlough Jan. 28, 2020.
He was under DOC supervision and residing in transitional housing in Bellows Falls at the time he absconded.
