CHITTENDEN — A 44-year-old woman is being charged with assault on a protected professional following an incident in Chittenden yesterday.

Police say they responded to a home to conduct a welfare check on Dam Road, at around 7:06 p.m.

Police say they made contact with a woman and found that she needed assistance.

When police attempted to take her into protective custody, they say she resisted their efforts, assaulting troopers and causing facial injuries to one of them.

She was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center to receive treatment and evaluation for a pre-existing condition.

She was cited to appear in court today to answer the charge of assault on a protected professional.
