Rutland man facing charges after stealing vehicle, leading police on high-speed chase

RUTLAND — A 41-year-old man is facing multiple charges following a police chase in Rutland City yesterday.

Authorities were notified of a stolen vehicle complaint from Panera Bread Parking Lot at around 9:10 p.m.

Police located the vehicle traveling on US Route 7 and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

After the vehicle failed to stop, a brief pursuit ensued.

Police say they discontinued the pursuit at the intersection of Route 7 and Route 103 in Clarendon.

The vehicle was later seen headed south on Route 7 in the northbound lane at a high rate of speed.

Police later used a tire deflation device to stop the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Jeffrey Kozikowski, of Rutland City, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Police say Kozikowski was transported to the Rutland City Police Department for processing.

After processing, he was issued a citation to appear in court today to answer to the charges of attempting to elude, grossly negligent operation, aggravated ooc, and grand larceny.

He was ultimately lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility.
