MONTPELIER – Dermot Hanna, 59, of Rutland, was arraigned on two counts of abuse of a vulnerable adult and two counts of obtaining a regulated drug by deceit in Vermont Criminal Court, Rutland Division.
According to papers filed with the court, Hanna was employed as a registered nurse at Mountain View Nursing Home when he diverted controlled substances from an 85-year-old patient in his care.
In addition, Hanna gave the same patient Haldol and Seroquel, which the patient was not prescribed.
His actions could have reasonably caused the patient unnecessary pain and unnecessary suffering.
Hanna pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in the Vermont Superior Court, Rutland Criminal Division.
He was released by the court on conditions.
Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult carries a maximum penalty of not more than one-year imprisonment and/or a fine of not more than $1,000.
Obtaining a Regulated Drug by Deceit carries a maximum penalty of not more than two years and one day of imprisonment and/or fines not more than $5,000.
