Skier dies after hitting tree at Killington

KILLINGTON — A 48-year-old man from New York died during a skiing accident in Killington this afternoon.

On December 28, 2019, the Vermont State

Police were notified of the incident at the Killington Ski Resort, at around 3:00 p.m.

The victim, identified as Jason Vitale, of Baldwin, NY, was transported to the Rutland Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say Vitale was traveling at a high rate of speed on an intermediate trail when he lost control and collided with a tree.

According to the report, Vitale was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

He was quickly moved off the mountain by members of the Killington Ski Patrol.

Police say he went into cardiac arrest while being transported to the hospital.
