MIDDLETOWN SPRINGS — A 28-year-old West Rupert man was arrested after a bizarre incident in Middletown Springs early this morning.

Police were dispatched to a house on Prospect Lane for a report of a possible home invasion at around 12:49 a.m.

A resident told police they found a strange man inside their home, who when discovered fled in a vehicle.

Police say they located a vehicle that had crashed in the area with a driver who matched the description given by the victim.

While speaking with the driver, identified as James Ryan, police say they observed signs indicating impaired operation.

Police arrested Ryan and transported him to the Rutland State Police barracks for processing.

Upon further investigation, police found that Ryan had entered the home through an unlocked door and had remained inside until being discovered by the homeowner.

He was transported to Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility to be held pending his court appearance, which was scheduled for today.

He faces charges of DUI, and unlawful trespass into an occupied dwelling.
