Barre man identified as apparent drowning victim

MORETOWN — A 52-year-old man from Barre died in an apparent drowning in the Winooski River in Moretown, police say. .

Police were called to help locate a missing man at around 2:43 p.m.

Police say Keith Shelden was located deceased in the Winooski River.

The State Police SCUBA team was activated and responded to assist with the victim’s recovery from the river.

Following a preliminary investigation by the state police, it was found that Shelden had been fishing with his mom when he went missing.

Police say Shelden’s body was being taken yesterday evening to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.
