CALAIS — A single-vehicle crash involving a deer in Calais yesterday caused a vehicle to go up in flames.

Police were dispatched to the scene on Vermont Route 14 at around 6:56 p.m.

Police say they found a 2008 Subaru Impreza fully engulfed when they arrived.

The East Montpelier Fire Department responded and closed the road to safely extinguish the fire.

The driver, identified as Scott Grzankowski, 46, of Calais, was not injured in this crash.

According to the police report, Grzankowski was headed north when the deer ran in front of the vehicle.

The Subaru collided with the deer and then caught fire, police say.
