Pedestrian struck and killed in Waitsfield

WAITSFIELD — A 43-year-old Waitsfield woman was killed after being struck by a car yesterday.

The incident took place on Main Street in Waitsfield, near the intersection with Carroll Road at around 11:40 a.m.

Police identified the driver as June Sardi, 84, of Warren, and the pedestrian as Mariah McGill, of Waitsfield.

Police say McGill was transported to Central Vermont Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.

Sardi was headed South on Main Street when she hit McGill, who was crossing the crosswalk.

Police were still investigating this crash, but say that Sardi was issued a citation and released to answer to the charge of gross negligent operation.

Police were assisted on scene by members of the Mad River Valley Ambulance and Fire Department.
