Police: East Montpelier man charged after shooting woman while preparing to clean gun

MONTPELIER — Police say the man whose gun accidentally discharged, injuring a 38-year-old woman from East Montpelier, will face charges.

David Darnell, 37, of East Montpelier, is being charged with reckless endangerment and negligent use of a gun.

The incident that took place earlier this month at a home on US Route 2.

Police say Darnell was preparing to clean his firearm when he accidentally discharged the handgun while it was pointed at Naomi Watker.

Watker sustained serious injuries and received treatment at the University of Vermont Medical Center.

Darnell was also injured during the incident, and police say both are recovering from their injuries.
